The 10th anniversary volume of THE SUPERYACHTS is a tribute to the large number of skilled people who are designing, building, selling, and of course, buying these vessels, but also to an era of relative peace and prosperity that has encouraged an ever-increasing number of owners to invest in such highly desirable craft. For this volume, sufficient large yachts of truly magificent quality have been launched in 1996 to fill this book 3 times over, and as such selecting the 21 vessels illustrated in this volume was highly challenging. The final choices were not merely based on the largest and most sumptuous of these recently launched vessels, but from as wide a spectrum of size, style and decoration as possible, including a proportion of newly refitted vessels such as the classic sailing yacht Mariette.
